How to reach Labuan Bajo by air

Komodo International Airport (LBJ) is about 2 to 3 km from the town centre, a few minutes by taxi. It has flights from Denpasar, Jakarta and other Indonesian cities. Verified direct flights from India are not known, so most Indian travellers connect through Denpasar, Jakarta, Singapore or Kuala Lumpur; check airline sites for current schedules.

How to reach Labuan Bajo by train

There is no railway on Flores and no station. Travellers arrive by air, by ferry or by road.

How to reach Labuan Bajo by road

Roads connect Labuan Bajo with Ruteng and further east to Bajawa, Ende and Maumere. Road journeys are slow and winding, so allow much longer than the distance suggests. A public ferry runs from Sape on Sumbawa, but most visitors fly.

Getting around Labuan Bajo

The town is small enough to walk, with short taxi or motorbike-taxi rides for hills and the airport. For land sights hire a car with a driver, and for the park book a boat through a reputable operator rather than a stranger at the pier.

Easy transfers to and in Labuan Bajo

  • Heat and sun are strong even in the dry months. Wear a wide hat, carry water and sun protection, and avoid the Padar climb in the middle of the day.
  • Carry travel insurance that covers medical evacuation. There are clinics in town but for serious problems patients are normally flown to hospitals on other islands.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
