Plan 01

1 day in Mandarmani

  1. 01

Day 1: Beach, crabs and a lighthouse

Walk the beach at sunrise and look for the small red crabs near the tide line. After breakfast and a rest, make the short trip to Dariapur to see the lighthouse and the Kapalkundala temple, checking the lighthouse climbing window first. Return for an easy evening on the sand and a browse of the shell stalls.

Plan 02

2 days in Mandarmani

  1. 01

    Day 1: Slow beach day

Arrive in the morning, settle in and rest through the heat. Walk the sand in the late afternoon, check the tide with hotel staff, and visit the beach stalls for small souvenirs. Eat dinner early and keep the evening quiet.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Dariapur and Contai

After an early sunrise walk, drive to Dariapur for the lighthouse and temple. Stop in Contai on the way back to see the Nimak Mahal from outside and have lunch, then rest before a last evening on the beach.

Plan 03

3 days in Mandarmani

  1. 01

    Day 1: Arrive and walk

Settle in, rest and walk the beach in the late afternoon. Look for the red crabs and watch the light change.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Dariapur and Contai

Visit the Dariapur lighthouse and Kapalkundala temple, then Contai's Nimak Mahal. Keep the afternoon for rest.

Dariapur Lighthouse1 to 2 hours, plus road timeModerateLate afternoon for the climb window reported by visitors; clear days for views

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Dariapur Lighthouse: The climb is on a tower stair, with a lot of steps and little seating, and is not suitable for anyone with knee, heart or breathing problems. Older travellers can enjoy the grounds and the exterior from the base.

  3. 03

    Day 3: Shankarpur or Junput

Go early to Shankarpur for the fishing harbour and casuarina shade, or to Junput for the fisheries museum and a quieter beach. Return by lunchtime and take a last beach walk before leaving.

Pacing

Pacing a Mandarmani trip for parents and children

  • Choose a resort with road access to the door and ask if there is a lift or ground-floor room; the sand is flat but long walks in the sun are tiring.
  • Walk the beach only in the early morning and late afternoon. Midday has little shade, and April to June is hot and humid.
  • Private cars are restricted on the sand, so ask your hotel how to reach the water and whether a vehicle pass is needed for transfers.
  • Check the tide with hotel staff and swim only in shallow water near others. The beach is flat and the tide can come in quickly, and the sea is rough in the monsoon.
  • Carry cash, water and any medicines. Mobile signal and power can be unreliable, and the nearest large hospital is in a town, not on the beach; ask your hotel where it is.
  • Keep day trips short. Dariapur's lighthouse has narrow stairs, so skip the climb if you have knee, heart or breathing problems.
