Plan 01

1 day in Mandi

  1. 01

    Day 1: The temple circuit

Start at Bhootnath Temple in the morning, then walk through the clock-tower market for tea. Cross towards Purani Mandi to see Triloknath Temple and the Victoria Bridge, and finish at Panchvaktra Temple at the confluence of the Beas and Suketi. Rest after lunch and add Ardhnareshwar Temple in the late afternoon if energy allows.

Victoria Bridge15–30 minutesEasyMorning or late afternoon, dry months
Panchvaktra Temple45 minutesModerateMorning or late afternoon, October to March; avoid monsoon

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Panchvaktra Temple: There are steps down to the river-level temple platform and the surroundings can be wet or muddy after rain. Take your time on the steps and visit in dry weather.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Mandi trip for parents and children

  • Do the temple circuit in the morning by car, using the old town on foot only for the shortest stretches around Bhootnath and the market.
  • Panchvaktra involves steps down to a river-level platform. Go in dry weather and take your time.
  • Avoid July and August, when heavy rain brings landslides, flooding and road closures.
  • Prashar Lake is at 2,730 metres on a winding road. If you have heart or breathing concerns, check with your doctor first.
  • During the Shivratri fair, book early and choose cultural evenings over processions if crowds are a concern.
  • Carry socks for temple floors, warm layers for winter mornings and any regular medication, since pharmacies in small towns may not stock everything.
