Plan 01

1 day in Medaram

  1. 01

Day 1: Warangal to Medaram and back

Leave Warangal early and drive towards Mulugu, stopping if you wish at Ramappa Temple in Palampet while the light is soft. Continue through the Eturnagaram forest to Medaram and spend an hour at the Sammakka Saralamma platforms and at Jampanna Vagu. Eat lunch before or after, as dining choices in the village are limited. Return via Laknavaram Lake if time allows, reaching Warangal by evening.

Jampanna Vagu20 to 30 minutesEasyOutside festival days, October to February; water depends on the season
Laknavaram Lake2 to 3 hoursModerateOctober to February, and just after the monsoon when the lake is full

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Laknavaram Lake: The hanging bridges move underfoot and may be unsettling for anyone unsteady. The lakeside paths are mostly level, and there is a viewing tower and a ferry to the island.

    Day 1: Ramappa and Laknavaram

Start from Warangal and visit Ramappa Temple in the morning, then continue to Laknavaram Lake for a boat ride and the hanging bridges. Stay overnight at the lake or in Mulugu if accommodation is confirmed.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Medaram trip for parents and children

  • Visit on an ordinary day in the cooler months, not during the jatara, if mobility is a concern.
  • Base yourself in Warangal and hire a car with a driver; the road to Medaram takes a couple of hours each way.
  • Carry drinking water, snacks, any medicines and a hat, as there are few facilities along the forest road.
  • Break the journey at Ramappa Temple or Laknavaram Lake, which are easy stops.
  • Skip the swaying hanging bridges at Laknavaram if balance is an issue; the shoreline is pleasant.
  • If you do attend the jatara, go on the first or second day, agree a family meeting point and use official buses and parking.
