Day 1: Ungma and Mokokchung Village
Start with a morning visit to Ungma, the oldest and largest Ao village, with a local host who can explain its two khels, church and amphitheatre. Move to Mokokchung Village, next to the town, for the skyline and a short walk. Have lunch in town, rest, and use the late afternoon for the town itself. If you have a car all day, add a late-afternoon drive towards Impur if time allows.

Pacing
Pacing a Mokokchung trip for parents and children
- Plan one village a day. Roads are winding and distances of 15–30 km can take an hour or more.
- Hire a car and driver for the day; shared transport is slower and less predictable on hill roads.
- Pack layers. The town is at about 1,325 m, and winter mornings and evenings are cold.
- Avoid June to September unless you must travel; heavy rain can cause landslides and delays.
- Ask hosts about steps and slopes before visiting villages; many lanes are steep and some sites, such as Longlangba, need a walk.
- Keep Sundays light. Church services shape the day and many places are quiet.
