Before you go

Morjim Beach with elderly parents: what to know

  • Choose a hotel with level access and a short, firm path to the sand; the beach itself is flat but soft.
  • Swim only in the lifeguard-watched, flagged area and avoid the sea entirely in the monsoon.
  • Visit Siolim's church and market in the morning, when it is cooler and less crowded.
  • Ask venues about weekend music and fire shows if you want a quiet evening.
  • Arrange transport in advance for evenings, as lanes are dark and app taxis are limited.
  • Carry water, a hat and sunscreen, as the sun is strong even in winter.

Easiest first

Places in Morjim Beach sorted by walking effort

Easy on the legs (6)

  • Amancio Classic (Food and restaurants · About 1.5 hours) — Largely step-free with indoor, fan or air-cooled seating and a quieter room than the beach shacks. Parking can be tight at peak hours, so ask your driver to drop you at the door.
  • Cafe Morjim (Food and restaurants · 1 to 2 hours) — Close to the road with a short walk on soft sand. Seating is casual and can be low, so look for a chair with arms if you need support.
  • Jardin D'Ulysse (Food and restaurants · 1.5 to 2 hours) — Mostly open-air seating at ground level with a short walk from the lane; the garden floor can be uneven after dark. It is small, so ask about a quiet table when you reserve.
  • Khana and Love Cafe-Shop (Food and restaurants · 45 to 75 minutes) — A small, quiet room on a village road with minimal walking. It is shaded and calmer than the beachfront, which suits older visitors.
  • Saz on the Beach (Food and restaurants · 1.5 to 2.5 hours for dinner) — Covered seating with sea views and a short, flat walk from the road. The sand beyond the restaurant is soft, so ask for a table near the entrance. Fire shows and music on weekends make Friday and Saturday evenings louder.
  • St Anthony's Church, Siolim (Places to visit · 30 to 45 minutes) — Mostly level ground to the church with a few steps at the entrance and benches inside. It is shaded and cooler than the open beach.

Some walking — plan a break (2)

  • Konkan Explorers (Sports · 1 to 4 hours) — Boarding a small boat from a jetty needs a few steps and some balance. Kayaking is more demanding, so choose the cruise if mobility is limited.
  • Siolim Weekly Market (Shopping · 45 to 60 minutes) — A crowded roadside market with uneven ground and traffic, which is tiring in the heat. Go early, wear closed shoes and keep a companion with you.

Practical tips for Morjim Beach

  • Swimming safety. Swim only in the flagged area watched by lifeguards. Red flags mean the water is unsafe, and sea swimming and coastal water sports are prohibited in the monsoon.
  • Turtle season. Olive ridleys nest roughly from November to March. Keep lights and music low near the shore at night and do not touch nests or hatchlings.
  • Shacks and seasons. Beach shacks are licensed seasonally, roughly October to May, and can change hands. Check that a place is open before planning a meal.
  • Getting around. Taxis and scooters are common, but lanes are narrow and unlit at night. Agree fares in advance and arrange evening rides before dinner.
  • Heat and sun. The sun is strong even in winter. Plan outdoor time for the morning and late afternoon and carry water, a hat and sunscreen.
  • Money. Carry small notes and some cash, as card and UPI acceptance vary at small venues. Agree prices for taxis and activities first.
  • Dress and respect. Beachwear is fine on the sand, but cover up in villages and at churches or temples. Ask before photographing people.
  • Crossing to Siolim. The Chapora bridge links Morjim with Siolim and Mapusa. Allow extra time at peak hours and for Wednesday market traffic.
