Plan 01
1 day in Mudgal
- 01
Day 1: Fort and edict
Leave Raichur or Lingsugur early and reach Mudgal Fort by mid-morning while it is still cool. Spend two hours at Fateh Darwaza, the moat and the bastions. Have lunch in Lingsugur, then drive on to Maski in the afternoon to see the Ashoka edict and the settlement mounds. Return before dark.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Mudgal Fort 1.5–2.5 hours Moderate October to February, early morning or late afternoon Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Mudgal Fort: Paths are uneven, with broken masonry, steps at the gateways and almost no shade or seating. Older visitors can enjoy the outer walls and the north gate from level ground, and should skip the bastion climbs. Carry water; none is sold inside.

Pacing
Pacing a Mudgal trip for parents and children
- Go with a private car and driver; public transport to the fort is limited.
- Visit in the first hours after sunrise from November to February, because shade is scarce.
- Carry water, snacks and any medicines; there is nothing sold at the fort.
- Stay on level ground at the gate and outer walls and avoid climbing loose bastions.
- Plan the long drive with a rest stop in Lingsugur.
- Heat: April and May are severe, with highs above 39 degrees on average. Visit at sunrise and avoid midday when the fort has little shade.
