Day 1: View, museum and forest walk
Rise early for the Panchachuli view from your hotel or a viewpoint, then have a slow breakfast. Visit the Nanda Devi temple on the Dandadhar ridge and the Tribal Heritage Museum in Nanasen village, then take lunch in town. If energy allows, drive out for the Thamri Kund forest walk or the sacred pond at Maheshwari Kund. Return for an evening tea and a last look at the peaks.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Munsiyari trip for parents and children
- Allow at least two nights and an overnight en route; the drive from Kathgodam is long and tiring.
- Altitude is about 2,200 m, so rest on the first day, drink water and walk slowly.
- Ask for a room with a view and a heater; evenings are cold even in spring.
- Choose the town view, the temple and the museum over long treks; Khaliya Top and Milam are for fit walkers.
- Avoid July and August; landslides can delay or block the road.
- Carry cash and basic medicines; ATMs and chemists are limited.
