How to reach Murshidabad by air

The nearest major airport is Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport at Kolkata (CCU), about 200 km away; allow roughly four to five hours by road, traffic dependent. Murshidabad itself has no commercial airport.

How to reach Murshidabad by train

Murshidabad Junction (MBB) at Lalbagh is on the Sealdah-Lalgola line, with trains from Kolkata including the Hazarduari Express. Berhampore Court (BPC) and Azimganj Junction are other useful stations. Check current timetables before you plan.

How to reach Murshidabad by road

Murshidabad is about 200 km from Kolkata by road, with Baharampur as the main road hub. Hire a car with a driver, or take a bus to Baharampur and a local vehicle onward. Allow extra time for traffic and village roads.

Getting around Murshidabad

Sights are short drives apart, so hire a car with a driver for the day or use local autos for short hops. A municipal boat links Azimganj and Jiaganj on the Bhagirathi. Ask your hotel for a driver who knows the heritage sites.

Easy transfers to and in Murshidabad

  • Katra Mosque, Kathgola and the village temples have uneven ground, steps and little seating. Carry a folding stool or choose a guide who knows where to rest.
  • Hire a car with a driver for the whole stay. Auto-rickshaws are fine for short hops but can be rough on long village roads.
  • Carry medicines, water and snacks; pharmacies and medical care are limited outside Baharampur.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
