Why it matters
Why Tarey Bhir is worth your time
Tarey Bhir offers an outdoor, scenic alternative to the temple circuit around Namchi. It shows the landscape of South Sikkim, with its terraced slopes, deep river valleys and long ridges, in a way that statues and shrines do not.
It is also a reminder that the district is a place to walk. For visitors who have done the main religious sights, the ridge gives a half-day of fresh air, and the views of the river meeting are a different view of the region.

How to experience it
Drive from Namchi to Sadam, about 40 minutes by road, and park near the entrance gate. The walkway follows the ridge on a stepped concrete path with a metal railing along the cliff side.
As you walk, look out for the hills of Darjeeling and Kalimpong, terraced rice fields, forest and the valley far below, where the Teesta and Rangeet rivers meet. Accounts differ on the length of the path, from around 3 km to 4 km, so treat the distance as approximate and walk at your own pace.
Go in the morning for clearer views. There are tea stalls near the entrance, and some visitors have reported litter on the path, so carry out what you carry in.
