How to reach Nameri by air

Tezpur Airport (TEZ), about 40 km away, is an Indian Air Force base and recorded no scheduled traffic in 2025-26 statistics, so check current services. Guwahati (GAU) is the practical gateway, roughly 5 hours by road from the park.

How to reach Nameri by train

Rangapara North Junction (RPAN) in Sonitpur district is a main railhead on the Northeast Frontier Railway, with lines towards Dekargaon and Bhalukpong. Bhalukpong (BHNG) lies across the border in Arunachal Pradesh. Check current services before planning.

How to reach Nameri by road

The park is about 35 to 45 km north of Tezpur and about 216 km from Guwahati, via national highways, a state road past Chariduar and a final unpaved forest track. Buses reach Balipara, from where a taxi covers the last stretch.

Getting around Nameri

Inside the park you walk with a guard or travel by boat or raft. For getting there, hire a car and driver in Tezpur or Balipara; taxis beyond Balipara are limited, so arrange the return in advance.

Easy transfers to and in Nameri

  • The final road is unpaved and bumpy, so travel with a driver who knows it and expect a slow last stretch.
  • Carry regular medication, water and snacks; the nearest good hospitals are in Tezpur.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
