Plan 01

1 day in Palamaner

  1. 01

Day 1: Waterfall and forest edge

Start early and drive north to Kalyan Revu Waterfalls, about 10 km from town. Return for breakfast, then head west toward Kaigal Waterfalls and the Koundinya sanctuary road. Eat lunch in town and rest. In the late afternoon, stop at Mogileeswara Swamy Temple at Mogili.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Kalyan Revu Waterfalls1 to 2 hoursModerateDuring and just after the rains; mornings
Kaigal Waterfalls1 to 2 hoursModerateJuly to November, and soon after the rains; avoid after heavy rain when the rocks are slippery

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Kalyan Revu Waterfalls: Expect a rough approach and uneven rock near the falls. Older visitors should view from the lower ground rather than climbing, and avoid the area after heavy rain.

With parents at Kaigal Waterfalls: The final approach involves uneven ground and rocks, and the pool edges are slippery when wet. There is little seating or shade, so older visitors should use the viewing points rather than climbing, and carry water.

Visit Kalyan Revu in the morning, rest at midday, and stop at the Mogili temple in the afternoon.

  2. 02

Day 2: Kaigal and the sanctuary

Go early to Kaigal Waterfalls, then explore the sanctuary edge with a local driver, checking access first with the forest office.

Pacing

Pacing a Palamaner trip for parents and children

  • Hire a car with a driver; sanctuary and waterfall tracks are rough and signage is limited.
  • Visit waterfalls in the morning and avoid the area after heavy rain, when rock is slippery.
  • Carry water, snacks and any medication; facilities near the falls are minimal.
  • Do not walk in the forest at dawn or dusk, when elephants move.
  • Confirm access and fees with the forest office before going to the sanctuary.
  • Hire a driver: Public transport to the falls and sanctuary is limited; a local driver knows tracks and turns.
