Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Palani trip for parents and children
- Take the winch or ropeway rather than the roughly 690 steps; use the ordinary queue only if you can stand for long.
- Visit on a weekday morning, and avoid Thaipusam, Panguni Uthiram and long weekends unless you are there for the festival.
- Carry water, a hat and socks: temple stone becomes hot underfoot from late morning.
- Choose a hotel near the foot of the hill so you can rest in the afternoon.
- Check the temple's official site for current darshan fees, ropeway slots and timings before you travel.
- Visit the foothill Thiruavinankudi temple first if the hill looks too tiring; it is level and quieter.
