Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Paonta Sahib trip for parents and children
- The gurdwara complex is level, but you walk barefoot. Carry socks for winter and visit in the early morning or evening in summer, when the marble is not scorching.
- Ask for chairs at langar if floor seating is difficult. Many gurdwaras provide them for elders, but confirm with a sevadar on arrival.
- Avoid Hola Mohalla in March unless you want the festival. Crowds, traffic changes and noise are heavy, and facilities are stretched.
- Stay on the upper river steps at Gobind Ghat, and keep away from the water in the monsoon, when the Yamuna rises quickly.
- Hire a car and driver for Bhangani, Kalesar and Renuka. The roads are winding and distances are long for older travellers, so plan one trip per day with a rest after lunch.
- Carry regular medicines, water and a head scarf. Cover your head throughout the gurdwara complex.
