The short answer
Blue Elephant Phuket: what visitors should know first
Go for a special-occasion meal in a grand old house if your party eats seafood and meat. It is costlier than most Old Town restaurants. Vegetarians should phone ahead, as we could not confirm a vegetarian menu.
History and context
The story behind Blue Elephant Phuket
The restaurant is housed in the Phra Pitak Chinpracha Mansion, described by Phuket 101 as a former governor's house in the Old Town. We did not find a verified opening date for the Phuket restaurant on the pages we opened, so none is given here.

Why it matters
Why Blue Elephant Phuket is worth your time
Blue Elephant is the Old Town's formal option. Most Phuket Old Town restaurants are casual shophouse or heritage-house cafes; this one sits in a governor's mansion with a bar and a more elaborate menu. Time Out, Siam Niramit Phuket and Phuket 101 all name it, and its own site confirms the address and hours.
It is a useful choice for a family wanting a calmer, seated, more ceremonial meal after a day on the Old Town streets. It is not the place for a cheap or vegetarian-first meal, and prices run well above the noodle shops nearby.
Highlights
What not to miss
- 01
The mansion
A former governor's house reached along a garden alley in the Old Town.
- 02
Phuket-style crab curry
Its own site names a turmeric and betel-leaf crab curry.
- 03
Duck massaman curry
Named by a local guide as a milder, recommended dish.
Plan your visit
How to experience it
Plan this as a long, slow meal rather than a quick stop. The restaurant's own site describes Southern Thai cooking with new and old Phuket flavours, and names dishes such as a Peranakan king mackerel dish and a crab curry with turmeric and betel leaves. A local guide also names buffalo satay, steamed fish in bamboo and duck massaman curry, and says none of those is especially spicy.
The building is a former governor's house in the Old Town, reached along a garden alley, and the setting is much of the reason to come. Phuket 101 puts a typical dinner at around 1,500 baht a person before drinks and says smart casual dress is expected, so it suits an anniversary or a family celebration more than a casual lunch.
The menu we saw is built around seafood, duck, buffalo and foie gras, and we could not confirm a vegetarian section. Vegetarian and Jain guests should phone first and ask exactly what can be made without meat, fish, shrimp paste, onion or garlic, rather than assume.
Plan with confidence
