Why it matters

Why SOUL Vegan Cafe & Restaurant is worth your time

Vegetarians staying at the beaches can feel marooned, with fish sauce in most Thai food and the Indian restaurants a drive away. SOUL makes a stay in Karon or Kata more workable, because it provides a proper sit-down meal within easy reach of the sand, with Thai flavours made without any fish or animal products.

A local guide calls it the first fully plant-based restaurant in the Karon area, and HappyCow has recorded it as fully vegan since 2022. Reviews continue up to late October 2026. That track record is the reason we are comfortable pointing families here, while still asking you to confirm opening days.

Highlights

What not to miss

  1. 01

    Plant-based Thai classics

Massaman curry, khao soi and tom yum, without the fish sauce and shrimp paste of ordinary Thai cooking.

  2. 02

    Garden seating

A shaded garden with sofas under umbrellas gives a slower pace than the beach road.

  3. 03

    Children's menu

A kids' menu is unusual for a vegan restaurant, and helpful for family meals.

Plan your visit

How to experience it

Walk up from the beach in the late morning or come back for dinner. Look for the tuk-tuk painted with a Union Jack at the entrance. Sit in the garden if there is a breeze, or inside the semi-covered room when it is hot or raining. Staff speak good English and can explain which dishes suit which diets.

The menu runs from Massaman curry, khao soi, pad Thai and tom yum to pizza and lasagne, in plant-based form. Smoothie bowls and mango salad are popular lighter choices. One directory notes that availability of specific dishes varies, so have a second choice in mind.

Most dishes are moderately priced for the area, and a children's menu makes it practical for young families. Gluten-free options cover much of the menu. Jain diners should ask about onion and garlic, which are usual in Thai curry pastes, and should treat this as a general plant-based kitchen, not a Jain one.

Plan with confidence

Small checks that make a better meal.

  • Call first to confirm Monday opening
  • Have a second dish in mind, since availability varies
  • Look for the Union Jack tuk-tuk at the entrance
  • Ask about onion and garlic if you eat Jain food
