Plan 01

1 day in Porbandar

  1. 01

Day 1: Gandhi, Sudama and the seafront

Start at Kirti Mandir soon after it opens, so you see the house and the memorial before the groups arrive. Walk or ride to Sudama Mandir, which is in the market area and has shaded grounds. After lunch, visit Bharat Mandir during its afternoon session, and then drive out to Shri Hari Mandir on the edge of town for the Sandipani campus. End the day on the Chowpatty seafront and buy khajli to take home.

Visit Shri Hari Mandir in the morning, then the Bird Sanctuary if you are there in the cooler months. In the afternoon, drive down the coast to Madhavpur for its beach and the Madhavraiji temple, and return by early evening.

Plan 03

3 days in Porbandar

  1. 01

    Day 1: Gandhi and Sudama

Kirti Mandir in the morning, Sudama Mandir next, then a rest through the heat of the afternoon. Visit Bharat Mandir in its second session and finish on the Chowpatty seafront.

Day 2: Sandipani, birds and the palace

Spend a quiet morning at Shri Hari Mandir. Visit the Bird Sanctuary in winter, view Huzoor Palace from the road, and try khajli in the afternoon.

  3. 03

Day 3: Madhavpur, Barda or Jambuvan

Pick one. Madhavpur suits a gentle beach-and-temple day. The Barda hills suit travellers who want wildlife and are happy to check access arrangements first. Jambuvan cave is a short drive with uneven ground and suits those comfortable on rocky paths.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Jambuvan Cave1 to 2 hoursModerateCooler months, early morning

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Jambuvan Cave: Uneven rocky paths and some climbing make it demanding for older visitors. There is little seating and few facilities. Skip if balance or stamina is a concern.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Porbandar trip for parents and children

  • Porbandar is flat. Kirti Mandir, Sudama Mandir and Bharat Mandir are short, level visits, so most older travellers manage the town comfortably.
  • Plan town sights for the morning, break for lunch and rest, and go back for Bharat Mandir's afternoon session. Check opening hours first, since some sites close at midday.
  • Winter, from November to February, is the comfortable season. From March to May the heat is real, and in July and August heavy rain slows everything.
  • Jambuvan cave has uneven rocky paths, and the Barda hills involve rough roads. Skip them if stability or stamina is a concern, and prefer Madhavpur's beach and temple.
  • Hire a car and driver for the coast and day trips. Distances are long on single-carriageway roads, and a driver gives you a cool place to rest.
  • Carry water, a hat and sandals that are easy to remove, since temples ask you to leave footwear outside.
