How to reach Puerto Princesa by road

Buses and vans run from the city to El Nido, about 4 to 5 hours per Wikivoyage, and onward buses leave from Irawan terminal for places such as Port Barton. The road to Sabang and the Underground River takes about an hour and a half by road.

Getting around Puerto Princesa

Tricycles and jeepneys cover the city; tricycles are limited to certain areas. For Sabang, the wildlife centre and Iwahig, hire a van or car with a driver. Agree the fare and return time before you set off.

Easy transfers to and in Puerto Princesa

  • Hire a van with a driver for the Underground River day rather than using jeepneys; it avoids long waits and rough seating.
  • Carry prescriptions and a medical summary. Wikipedia lists seven hospitals in the city, including Ospital ng Palawan and Palawan Adventist Hospital, so this is the best place on Palawan to be in an emergency.
  • Buy travel insurance with medical cover, and keep a few days spare for weather if you need to connect to an international flight.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
