Area by area

Puerto Princesa neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

Rizal Avenue and the city centre

Best for: First-time visitors who want shops, restaurants and the cathedral on foot

Good to know: Convenient and flat, but traffic is noisy and pavements are limited. Ask for a quiet room at the back and a lift if you cannot manage stairs.

  2. 02

Near the airport and North Road

Best for: Short stays and early flights

Good to know: Wikivoyage lists several hotels and pensions close to the airport, some with airport pick-up. Check recent reviews because many listings are old.

  3. 03

San Pedro and the south side

Best for: A quieter base with a garden resort feel

Good to know: Resorts such as Carpe Diem Villas, listed by Wikivoyage, sit here. You will need a vehicle for most sights.

  4. 04

    Sabang

Best for: Travellers who want a night near the Underground River

Good to know: A small beach village with basic guesthouses. Roads are rural and the nearest large hospitals are in the city.

Sights in this area: Puerto Princesa Underground River, Sabang Beach

  5. 05

    Honda Bay island resorts

    Best for: Beach-focused stays

Good to know: Wikipedia and Wikivoyage mention an upscale resort on Arrecife Island. Ask about meals, mobility and medical arrangements before booking.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
