Area by area

Ranchi neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

Main Road and Albert Ekka Chowk

Best for: Travellers who want to be central, near restaurants and the lake

Good to know: The commercial heart of the city, with the widest choice of hotels and restaurants. The trade-offs are traffic, noise and crowded pavements. Check that your hotel has a lift and easy vehicle drop-off if you are travelling with elders.

  2. 02

    Kanke Road

Best for: Families who want to be near Rock Garden, Kanke Dam and Nakshatra Van

Good to know: A greener, quieter side of the city with easy access to the garden and dam. Distances to the airport and railway station are somewhat longer, so factor in traffic.

Sights in this area: Rock Garden and Gonda Hill

  3. 03

    Morabadi and Tagore Hill side

Best for: Quiet stays near Tagore Hill and the older residential area

Good to know: A calmer residential part of Ranchi with a few hotels and guest houses. Choose a place with reliable car access.

  4. 04

    Near the airport and Hinoo

Best for: Short stays and early flights

Good to know: Convenient for arrival and departure, with a limited choice of restaurants nearby.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
