Why it matters
Why Mayodia Pass is worth your time
Mayodia is the best-known high viewpoint for visitors based in Roing. It lies on the road towards Anini and shows the shift from lowland forest to snowfields within a single day.
For many travellers it is the one place in the area where a winter snow scene is within reach by car, which makes it the area's most photographed spot. It also shows the scale of the terrain behind Roing, where the road climbs from plains town to near 2,700 m, and it is the usual first stage for anyone continuing towards Anini later.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Leave Roing early, as the drive to the pass takes about three hours and should be done in daylight. Carry warm layers, water and food, because there are few facilities on the way. Snow usually falls from November to March and is heaviest in January and February.
Stop on the climb for views across the Dibang valley, then walk a short distance at the pass for photographs. Keep the schedule loose, as weather can change fast, and turn back if the road is bad.
Do not plan Mayodia during the July to August monsoon, when landslides and mud make the road unreliable. If you are travelling with parents, hire a car and an experienced local driver.
