Pacing
Pacing a Santiniketan trip for parents and children
- Plan one main sight in the morning, a rest after lunch and a gentle late-afternoon walk. Campus paths are flat, but the heat from April to June can be draining.
- Check opening days for Uttarayan, Rabindra Bhavana and Ballavpur before travelling, as several have fixed hours and a weekly closure.
- The Saturday haat is on uneven red soil with limited shade or seating; go in the early afternoon, carry water and take a hat.
- Use battery rickshaws or autos for short hops between sights, and hire a car for Amar Kutir, Ballavpur and Kankalitala.
- Poush Mela in late December is crowded. If crowds are hard for you, visit a few days before or after and book accommodation early.
- Carry bottled water, and dress modestly at the campus and at temples; remove footwear where requested.
