The short answer

When to go to Sapa

The best window is September to November, when terraces turn golden and skies are usually clearer, with March to May a milder second choice. Winter, from November to February, is cold, damp and foggy, and summer from June to early September brings heavy rain with flood and landslide risk. Older travellers should avoid the wettest months, plan outdoor sights for mornings, and pack warm layers even in autumn, as the town and the Fansipan summit are far cooler than Hanoi.
