Key hubs

Satkosia airport and railway station

Airport
Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar (BBI); about 130 to 160 km by road depending on which side you enter, so roughly 3 to 4 hours
Railway station
Angul (ANGL) for the Tikarpada side, about 60 km via the Pampasar gate; Nayagarh Town station is the nearest railhead on the Badamul side
Getting around
Your own hired car from Bhubaneswar or Angul is by far the easiest option; local transport inside the reserve is thin and forest roads close in the evening

How to reach Satkosia by air

Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar (BBI), is the nearest major airport. By road it is about 130 to 160 km depending on which gate you use, so allow roughly three to four hours. Taxis can be pre-booked.

How to reach Satkosia by train

Angul (ANGL), on the East Coast Railway, is the usual railhead for the Tikarpada side, about 60 km from Tikarpada via the Pampasar gate. For the Badamul side, Nayagarh Town station is the nearest railhead; check which services call there.

How to reach Satkosia by road

From Bhubaneswar, roads run through Nayagarh towards Badamul and through Angul towards Pampasar and Tikarpada. Allow several hours and check forest road conditions, especially after rain.

Getting around Satkosia

There is little public transport inside the reserve. A hired car is the practical choice, and day visitors must obtain permission at the Pampasar gate and leave before closing time. Boat trips run from the camps.

Easy transfers to and in Satkosia

  • Plan the drive in daylight and leave the forest well before the gate closing time, which is enforced; do not leave the exit to the last hour.
  • Carry regular medicines and a basic first-aid kit, because the nearest good hospital is in Angul or Bhubaneswar, a long drive away.
  • Book camps and permits ahead and carry printouts, as mobile signal can be patchy in the gorge.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
