The short answer
Jewel Changi Airport: what visitors should know first
Worth it if you land early, have a long layover or fly out in the evening. Allow two hours, see the Rain Vortex from the lower floors, and eat there before check-in. It is not worth a separate trip from the city.

Why it matters
Why Jewel Changi Airport is worth your time
Jewel is Changi's answer to the question of what to do with a long layover. It opened officially on 18 October 2019 and was designed by a consortium led by Moshe Safdie, with RSP as executive architects. Its Rain Vortex is described as the world's tallest indoor waterfall at 40 metres, and the terraced forest around it ties the airport to the city's garden identity.
For Indian travellers it matters because most arrive and leave through Changi. A calm, air-conditioned and genuinely pleasant space beside the terminals changes the experience of a stopover, especially for older people or families with small children who would otherwise sit at a gate. It is also a useful rain shelter on a wet Singapore afternoon.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Walk in from Terminal 1, 2 or 3, or take the Changi Airport MRT, and head for the lower levels, where the Rain Vortex falls through a circular opening in the glass roof. Walk down to the base for the best view of the water, then ride the escalators up through the planted forest that surrounds it. The air is cool and slightly damp, a gentle change from the heat outside.
The upper levels have shops and restaurants, and the complex has about 300 retail and dining outlets in all, including a food court. The Canopy Park on the topmost level has a topiary walk, a hedge maze and a suspension bridge about 23 metres above ground with a glass-floored section. These attractions are ticketed and suit families more than older travellers.
If you are transiting, check whether your ticket and visa allow you to leave the transit area, then give yourself at least two hours so the visit does not feel rushed. The Skytrain in the airside area passes close to the waterfall, so passengers who cannot leave can still glimpse it.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
- Check visa and transit rules before leaving the airport
