Why it matters
Why Tirumala Venkateswara Temple (day trip) is worth your time
Together, Tirumala and Srikalahasti form the two best-known temple stops in the district, one Vaishnava and one Shaiva. Wikipedia records the temple as being on the seventh peak, Venkatadri, of the Tirumala hills, at about 853 metres, on the southern bank of the Swami Pushkarini tank, and run by an autonomous body, TTD. Few pilgrims come to Srikalahasti without also thinking of Tirumala, so it is worth knowing early that the two visits need separate planning, separate queues and separate energy.

How to experience it
Treat Tirumala as its own pilgrimage, with its own preparation. Wikipedia describes it as dedicated to Venkateswara, a form of Vishnu, on the seventh peak of the Tirumala hills, managed by TTD, and visited by roughly 24 million devotees a year.
Book darshan through official channels, allow a full day, and do not combine it with a late Srikalahasti evening. Many pilgrims do Srikalahasti on the day before or after.
See the Tirupati guide for full planning. If you plan both, do Srikalahasti on one day and Tirumala on another, and use Tirupati as a base for both so that older travellers can rest between the two.
