Plan 01
1 day in Srisailam
- 01
Day 1: Darshan first, then the river
Arrive early; the road through the tiger reserve is subject to night-time restrictions, so do not plan to drive in late. Go straight to the Mallikarjuna Swamy temple for darshan and the neighbouring Bhramaramba shrine, then stop at Sakshi Ganapati on the way back. After a rest, take the ropeway down to Pathala Ganga if the steps are not for you, and visit the Chenchu Lakshmi tribal museum before leaving.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple 2 to 4 hours including queue Moderate Early morning on a weekday, October to February; avoid Maha Shivaratri and public holidays Chenchu Lakshmi Tribal Museum About 1 hour Easy Midday or afternoon, when it is hot outside Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple: The compound is large and mostly flat but floors are bare stone and can be hot at midday. Queues can be long and standing time is the main strain; ask staff about assisted or priority arrangements for elders, and consider an early slot.
Plan 02
2 days in Srisailam
- 01
Day 1: Temple complex
Spend the morning on darshan at the Mallikarjuna temple and the Bhramaramba shrine, noting the sculpted outer walls and the Vijayanagara pillared hall. Rest through the afternoon, then visit Sakshi Ganapati and walk the temple precinct as the evening rituals begin.
- 02
Day 2: Water, forest and ridges
Start at the ropeway to Pathala Ganga, then take the boat to the Akka Mahadevi caves if reservoir levels and boat services allow. In the afternoon see Sikharam or Hatakeshwaram, and finish at the dam viewpoints or the tribal museum before the road restrictions begin.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Akka Mahadevi Caves 3 to 4 hours round trip Moderate Morning departure; boat services depend on season and reservoir level Sikharam About 1 hour Easy Morning or late afternoon, October to February Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Akka Mahadevi Caves: The boat ride is long and has limited shade, and there is a short walk and uneven rock at the cave. It is manageable for steady walkers but not ideal for anyone with balance problems.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Srisailam trip for parents and children
- Reach Srisailam in daylight. Private vehicles are restricted on the forest road at night, so check the current timings before you set out.
- Use the ropeway to Pathala Ganga instead of the long stair descent, and plan to rest at the top before the climb back to temple level.
- Weekdays outside festival periods are calmer for darshan. Maha Shivaratri and Ugadi bring very large crowds, so book rooms and be ready to queue for hours.
- Wear footwear you can remove easily; temple floors can be hot at midday, and carry socks if you are sensitive.
- Carry water, snacks and any medicines; shops thin out once you leave the town, and mobile coverage can be patchy on the forest road.
- The drive from Hyderabad is long and winding. Take a break each hour or two if anyone is prone to travel sickness.
