Why it matters
Why Surat Diamond Bourse is worth your time
The bourse is the building that makes Surat's diamond trade visible. Instead of hundreds of small workshops scattered across the city, it brings buyers, sellers and customs under one roof, and it was designed to compete with established global trading centres.
For visitors, it is a modern counterpoint to the castle and old city. It shows what the city's wealth now looks like, and it explains why Surat is on India's economic map. It is not a conventional attraction, but it is an interesting short stop for architecture and business-minded travellers.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Treat the bourse as a short, car-based stop. The complex is on the edge of the city in DREAM City and is best seen from a distance and from the entrance area, where the scale of the nine linked towers is clear.
Do not assume you can walk in. It houses thousands of offices and customs facilities for the diamond trade, and visitor access is typically limited. If you have a business contact in the trade, ask them to arrange entry. Otherwise, enjoy the architecture from outside and move on.
It makes sense to combine this with a talk or reading on the diamond industry, which Surat dominates. About 90 per cent of the world's diamonds are said to be cut and polished in the city, most of it in workshops in the Varachha area, which is not set up for tourism.
Plan with confidence
