Hire a taxi or arrange transfers through your homestay; local buses run on the Aut-Banjar-Gushaini road but are infrequent. Roads are narrow, so do not plan tight connections.

Easy transfers to and in Tirthan Valley

  • Choose a ground-floor room at a homestay close to the road; many properties are reached by steep steps or stone paths.
  • Plan a single base and use short drives, rather than moving every night. The roads are slow and winding.
  • Carry regular medicines and a basic first-aid kit; the nearest large hospitals are in Kullu or Mandi, hours away.
  • Avoid the monsoon months; landslides can cut the road for hours.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
