- Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home (Places to visit · About 1 hour including waiting for the feeding) — The viewing area is a short, mostly level walk from where vehicles stop. Seating and shade may be limited and the crowd can be tight at feeding time, so arrive early and carry water.
- Udawalawe National Park (Places to visit · About 3 to 4 hours for a standard jeep drive) — Safaris are done sitting in a jeep, so there is no walking. Tracks are bumpy and dusty and the roll bars are hard to grip, so ask for a vehicle with a padded seat, bring a hat, and expect a hot, open sky.
- Udawalawe Reservoir and Dam (Places to visit · 30 to 60 minutes) — Viewing is level and can be done from the vehicle or from the road along the dam. There is little shade, so carry a hat and water, and avoid midday heat.

- Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium (Sports · Half a day for a match; otherwise a brief stop) — Stadium access involves long walks from parking and stairs to the stands, with limited shade in the heat. Choose covered seating if available and carry water.

- Booking. Arrange your jeep through your hotel the day before. Confirm the park fee and gate times in advance, as we could not verify them.
- Getting around. There is no railway station; use a hired car with driver. Agree prices before you set off.
- Dress. Wear neutral colours, a hat and sunscreen. Cover up at any temple you visit en route.
- Money. Carry rupees in small notes. Cards are not accepted everywhere and ATMs can be limited near the park.
