Day 1: Fort and town from Nellore
Leave Nellore at first light for the drive of about one and a half to two hours via Atmakur. Start the fort climb straight away if you are fit and have a local guide; plan to be down by late morning. After a rest and lunch, visit the Paruveta Mandapam and Balakrishna temple, then walk around the old mosques and lanes. Head back in the late afternoon and stop at the Talpagiri Ranganatha temple in Nellore if time allows.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Paruveta Mandapam and Balakrishna Temple About 1-2 hours including the town temples Moderate Early morning or late afternoon, November to February Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Paruveta Mandapam and Balakrishna Temple: Much gentler than the hill fort, but the ground is uneven, shade is limited and the sites are not set up for visitors with seating or ramps. Go in the cooler hours and take a companion.

With parents at Udayagiri Fort: Not suitable for most older visitors: access is by steps and a steep forest trail, with little shade, no handrails to speak of and no seating or toilets on the hill. Seniors are better off at the Paruveta Mandapam in the town.
