Why it matters
Why Sangamchatti to Dodital Trek is worth your time
The route shows how the trekking economy around Uttarkashi works: registered operators, forest trails, village stops and camps. It also offers a lower-altitude introduction to Garhwal than the long Gaumukh route up the Bhagirathi.
Done responsibly, with a local operator and a spare day, it is one of the better first multi-day treks in the district. Done carelessly in winter or monsoon conditions, it is a poor choice, so treat the season and weather as the main constraint.

How to experience it
The trek starts at Sangamchatti beside the Assi Ganga, a short drive from Uttarkashi. A steep section leads towards Agoda, a village reached after about 5 km of climbing, where Bakra Top and Dayara Bugyal can be seen. Itineraries then continue by forest paths through Bebra and Manjhi to the lake; one published itinerary lists about 9 km between Bebra and Manjhi and 6 km from Manjhi to Dodital.
Distances differ between sources, so treat figures as indicative and plan by days, not kilometres. Descending the same way takes a long final day. A road has been reported to reach Agoda, which can shorten the route; confirm its condition with your operator.
Travel light but carry warm layers, rain protection, sturdy shoes and water treatment. Agree a plan for bad weather, and tell someone at your hotel when you expect to return.
