Day 1: Kolhua, relic stupa and the peace pagoda
Leave Patna early so you reach Kolhua soon after opening. Spend about an hour at the Ashokan pillar and the brick stupa and monastery remains beside it. Drive on to the relic stupa and the coronation tank, then see the Vaishali Museum as a shaded break. Have lunch and rest before visiting the Vishwa Shanti Stupa in the softer afternoon light. If time allows, drive past Raja Vishal ka Garh on the way back. Confirm ASI opening hours before you go, as museum closing days vary.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Vaishali trip for parents and children
- Start early. Shade is sparse at the open sites, and even in winter the midday sun can be tiring.
- Hire a car and driver for the whole day. Taxis and autos are rare near the sites, and a car gives you a cool place to rest.
- Carry water, snacks and sun protection. Facilities are basic, and toilets may be limited outside the museum and pagoda.
- The peace pagoda, coronation tank and Ashokan pillar are the easiest stops. Raja Vishal ka Garh is uneven and best viewed from the edge if walking is a concern.
- Plan lunch in advance, either by carrying a packed meal or booking at your hotel, as options near the sites are limited.
- Read a short guide before you go. The ruins are low and more meaningful with context.
