Plan 01
1 day in Vellore
- 01
Day 1: Fort in the morning, golden temple in the afternoon
Reach Vellore Fort soon after it opens and walk along the moat before the heat builds. Visit Jalakandeswarar Temple, the Government Museum and St John's Church inside the grounds. Break for lunch and a rest, then drive to Sripuram Golden Temple in the late afternoon, when the walk is more comfortable, and stay as long as the queue and your energy allow.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Vellore Fort 2–4 hours for the fort alone; a full morning if you add the temple and museum Moderate Early morning or late afternoon, November to February; avoid the midday sun from March to June Jalakandeswarar Temple About 1 hour Easy Early morning, outside the hot hours; festival days are busier Sripuram Golden Temple (Sri Lakshmi Narayani) 2–3 hours including the walking route Moderate Early morning on a weekday, October to February; avoid festival weekends if you dislike crowds Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Vellore Fort: The grounds are wide and mostly flat, but shade is limited and distances between the temple, museum and church add up. Wear a hat, take water and hire an auto to the gate you need; the rampart walk should be skipped if footing or heat is a concern.
With parents at Sripuram Golden Temple (Sri Lakshmi Narayani): The route to the temple is a long, star-shaped walkway of over a kilometre, partly open to the sun. Go early, carry water, wear comfortable footwear and ask the staff on arrival about wheelchair or assistance arrangements, as these are not documented here.

Day 2: Sripuram and a green outing
Go to Sripuram Golden Temple early to beat the queues, then drive to Amirthi Zoological Park in the afternoon for shade and an optional short waterfall trek if conditions allow.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Sripuram Golden Temple (Sri Lakshmi Narayani) 2–3 hours including the walking route Moderate Early morning on a weekday, October to February; avoid festival weekends if you dislike crowds Amirthi Zoological Park Half a day including the drive Moderate November to February; the waterfall is seasonal, so check conditions after the monsoon Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Amirthi Zoological Park: The zoo paths are fairly short and shaded. The trek to the waterfall is about a kilometre and uneven, so older travellers may prefer to stay in the park and skip it. Facilities are basic; carry water and snacks.

Pacing
Pacing a Vellore trip for parents and children
- Do the fort in the first two or three hours after opening; there is little shade and the stone gets hot.
- Hire a car with a driver for Sripuram, Amirthi and the village temples rather than relying on buses.
- Stay close to the hospital or fort area if you have medical appointments, so that transfers are short.
- At Sripuram, ask staff on arrival about assistance; the walkway to the temple is over a kilometre long.
- Carry water, a hat and any medication, and plan a rest in the afternoon, especially from March to June.
- Skip the Amirthi waterfall trek if footing is uncertain; the zoo itself is easier.
