Day 1: Lake, gardens and a viewpoint
Reach Yercaud early from Salem, take a boat ride on Yercaud Lake and walk through Anna Park. Visit the Botanical Garden and Orchidarium and the Rose Garden, which are close together on Lady's Seat Road, then see Lady's Seat in the late afternoon for the view over the plains. Have lunch in town and rest for an hour if you are travelling with older relatives. Leave before dark, because the ghat road is easier in daylight.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Yercaud trip for parents and children
- The ghat road from Salem has about 20 hairpin bends. Sit in the front, take travel-sickness medication if needed and travel in daylight.
- The lake, Anna Park, Botanical Garden and Rose Garden are the easiest sights; Lady's Seat, Pagoda Point and Servarayan involve uneven ground, so go slowly.
- At about 1,500 m, evenings and mornings are cool even in summer. Carry a warm layer.
- Avoid the last week of May if you dislike crowds; the summer festival fills the town.
- Check Kiliyur Falls access before taking elders; the footpath can be slippery in the wet season.
- Hire a car for the day instead of relying on autos on steep roads.
