The short answer

When to go to Zanskar

The best window is roughly late June to mid-September, when Pensi La is open, the valley is green and daytime weather is manageable, though nights stay cold. May and October are borderline, as roads can open late or close early with snow. From about November to April, the valley is mostly cut off, and only fit trekkers attempt the Chadar. Older travellers should choose July or August and plan to acclimatise slowly. We could not find a reliable station table for monthly temperatures, so no figures are shown.
