Why it matters
Why Kile Pakho is worth your time
Kile Pakho gives you a view over the whole plateau and shows how the valley sits within the hills. From above, the pattern of the paddy fields, the villages and the pine slopes becomes easy to read, which helps you understand why the Apatani settled and farmed here.
It also gives a break from village walking. After a day of lanes and fields, a ridge with open air and distant ranges is a different kind of experience, and it is useful on a clear day for photographers. In poor weather, it is better to skip it than to climb for a view you will not get.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Go early, when the air is clear and the valley is still quiet. The ridge sits above the plateau, and on a clear morning you can see the paddy floor on one side and snow-streaked ranges on the other. Spring, especially February to April, is the commonly recommended time, as visibility is better than in the rainy months.
Have your driver take you as far as the track allows, then walk the last stretch at your own pace. The ground can be slippery after rain, so wear shoes with grip and carry water and a warm layer, because the wind is cooler on the ridge than in the valley.
Combine the visit with the Pine Grove and a village stop. If clouds roll in or the path looks wet, turn back; the view from the lower slopes is still good, and there is no prize for finishing the climb.
