Day by day

  1. Day 1 — Arrive and watch sunset from Nahargarh

Arrive by morning flight or train and check into a hotel near the walled city so the next morning's starts are short. Rest over lunch. In the late afternoon, drive up to Nahargarh Fort on the ridge — the road is winding, so allow 30–40 minutes from the old city. Walk the terraces and the Madhavendra Bhawan apartments at your own pace, then settle in for sunset over Jaipur. The walk inside involves uneven stone and some steps, so comfortable shoes matter. Drive down before it gets fully dark and have dinner in town.

  2. Day 2 — Amber Fort, Panna Meena ka Kund and Jal Mahal

An early start, around 7:45 am, for Amber Fort. With a licensed guide, spend two to three hours through the Diwan-i-Aam, Sheesh Mahal and the older Man Singh palace. Afterwards, a short drive to Panna Meena ka Kund, the geometric stepwell in Amber village; viewing from the top is the best and safest way to see it, and climbing the steps may not be permitted. On the way back, stop at the Man Sagar lakeside for a view of Jal Mahal. Lunch and a proper rest. Keep the evening free or take a slow walk around the Tripolia and Chandpole bazaar lanes.

  3. Day 3 — City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal before departure

The walled-city trio sits within a short walk of each other, which makes for an efficient final morning. Start at Jantar Mantar when it opens, while the light is soft and the stone is cool; a guide makes the instruments far more meaningful. Continue to City Palace for its museum galleries and courtyards, then finish with Hawa Mahal — the facade from the street and the view from the upper levels, which involve ramps rather than stairs. Allow about four hours for all three. An early lunch, then transfer to the airport or station with a comfortable buffer.
