Plan 01

1 day in Alwar

  1. 01

Day 1: Museum, chhatri and lake

Start at the City Palace museum when it opens, giving it about ninety minutes for the manuscripts and weapons. Walk round to Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri and the Sagar tank behind. After lunch in the old town, drive out to Siliserh Lake for the late afternoon and boating if the water is open. Return via the Kalakand shops for a box to take home.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri30 to 45 minutesEasyEarly morning or late afternoon

Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Plan 02

2 days in Alwar

  1. 01

    Day 1: Sariska morning

Book a morning safari at Sariska and be at the gate early. The park is about 36 km from Alwar, so most people leave in the dark. Rest after lunch, then see the Pandupol shrine if the day and permits suit, or stay in the hotel. Evening in town.

  2. 02

Day 2: The city and the lake

Spend the morning at the City Palace museum and Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri, then Fateh Jung ka Gumbad near the station. Lunch, a rest, then Siliserh at sunset. Buy kalakand on the way back.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri30 to 45 minutesEasyEarly morning or late afternoon
Fateh Jung ka Gumbad45 to 60 minutesModerateMorning, October to March

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Fateh Jung ka Gumbad: Level grounds around the base, but the tomb has several steep stairs inside. The garden has some benches and shade. Heat can be strong on the open ground.

Plan 03

3 days in Alwar

  1. 01

    Day 1: City sights

City Palace museum and Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri in the morning, Fateh Jung tomb after lunch, and a walk to the kalakand shops in the evening.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri30 to 45 minutesEasyEarly morning or late afternoon

Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Sariska and Pandupol

Early safari in Sariska. If you have energy and the right permission, add Pandupol or the Kankwari fort by jeep. Keep the afternoon free.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Kankwari FortHalf a dayModerateOctober to March

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Kankwari Fort: The drive is long and bumpy; the fort itself needs scrambling over uneven stone. Little shade and no seating. Not suitable for anyone with a bad back or limited mobility.

  3. 03

Day 3: Siliserh, then a longer drive

Spend the morning at Siliserh, then choose a long drive to Neemrana Fort Palace on the Delhi–Jaipur road for lunch and views, or to Bhangarh for the ruined town, which must be left by sunset.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Neemrana Fort PalaceHalf a day for lunch and a walk; overnight for a full stayModerateOctober to March

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Neemrana Fort Palace: The fort is built on many levels, with stairs and slopes between terraces. Lifts and ramps are limited. Ask for rooms on the lower levels and check mobility arrangements.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Alwar (Sariska) trip for parents and children

  • Do Sariska safaris in winter mornings only if you can tolerate a cold open vehicle; carry a jacket and a blanket in December and January.
  • Choose the City Palace museum, Moosi Maharani ki Chhatri and Siliserh as your core. They are mostly level and take little effort.
  • Bala Quila is a long steep climb and access is controlled; skip it unless you have confirmed permission and a vehicle.
  • Pandupol and Kankwari involve rough forest roads in a jeep. Ask your driver and the forest office whether the track is open and suits the passengers.
  • Break long days with a rest after lunch; May to June afternoons are dangerous heat for anyone elderly.
  • Hire a car for the whole day for Sariska or Bhangarh. There is little public transport on those routes.
