Day 1: Temple, hill and Jain carving
Reach the Ambaji Mata Temple early, ideally before the morning queues build, and complete darshan. Visit Mansarovar kund next door and buy mohanthal prasad from the trust's counters. Drive to Gabbar hill and take the ropeway if it is running, or climb the steps if you are fit, and come down before the heat. After lunch and a rest, go to the Kumbhariya Jain temples for the carved marble, then end at Kailash Tekri and Mangalya Van for sunset if you have energy.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Mansarovar Kund 20–40 minutes Easy Early morning or late afternoon from October to March Kumbhariya Jain Temples 1–1.5 hours Easy Morning, October to March Kailash Tekri and Mangalya Van 1–1.5 hours Moderate Late afternoon for sunset, October to March Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Kailash Tekri and Mangalya Van: The garden has paths, but the hilltop temple involves a short climb on steps and uneven ground. Older visitors can enjoy the garden and viewpoint without going all the way up; shade is limited.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Ambaji trip for parents and children
- Come on a weekday between November and February and aim to finish darshan by late morning; full-moon days and Navratri bring very long queues.
- Use the Gabbar ropeway instead of the roughly 1,000 steps, and confirm at the base that it is running, as maintenance closures happen.
- Marble underfoot at the temple is cold in winter and scorching at midday; carry socks if allowed and visit early or late.
- Hire a car and driver for Gabbar, Kumbhariya and Koteshwar. Autos are fine in town but offer little shade or comfort on longer drives.
- Book rooms early for festival periods and ask for ground-floor or lift access; basic lodgings may not have either.
- Carry water, a hat and any medicines, and note the Ambaji Trust Hospital and the government hospital in town for basic care.
