Before you go
Beed with elderly parents: what to know
- Hire a car and driver for the whole trip; buses to the fort and sanctuary are infrequent and the sights are spread out.
- Do outdoor sights in the first part of the day. The plateau reaches about 40 degrees in April and May and shade is thin.
- Kankaleshwar Temple and the Jama Masjid are the easiest sights. Dharur Fort and the sanctuary involve uneven ground and little seating.
- Carry water, a hat, medicines and snacks; toilets and shops are sparse outside Beed town.
- Mahashivratri brings heavy crowds at Parli Vaijnath; choose a weekday outside festivals for a calmer visit.

Practical tips for Beed
- Heat. April and May highs reach about 39 to 41 degrees. Do outdoor sights before 10 am and rest through the afternoon.
- Getting around. Use autos in Beed and a hired car for the district. Agree on the route and waiting time before you set out.
- Dress and temples. Dress modestly at Kankaleshwar and Parli Vaijnath, and remove footwear. At Parli's abhishekam, male devotees may not wear clothing above the waist.
- Mosque etiquette. At the Jama Masjid, dress modestly, remove footwear and avoid prayer times. Ask before photographing worshippers.
- Monsoon. From June to September the countryside is green but fort paths and sanctuary trails get slippery. Carry rain gear and wear shoes with grip.
- Money. Carry cash for tea stalls and small fees; card use is patchy outside Beed town.
- Facilities. Toilets, shade and food are limited at Dharur and the sanctuary. Carry water, snacks and a hat.
- Entry details. Fees and timings for the sanctuary and fort are not published online. Confirm with the forest office or locally before a long drive.
