Plan 01

1 day in Bhindawas

  1. 01

Day 1: Wetland morning, a temple or tombs by afternoon

Leave Delhi or Rohtak early so you reach Bhindawas Wildlife Sanctuary soon after sunrise, when birds are most active and the light is soft. Drive or walk the track beside the water, stopping at open stretches for binoculars. Have breakfast packed or in Jhajjar, as there is little to eat near the lake. Continue to Khaparwas Wildlife Sanctuary if time allows. In the afternoon, visit the Mughal-era tomb group at Jhajjar before the light turns flat, and head back before dark since rural roads are poorly lit.

Khaparwas Wildlife Sanctuary1–2 hoursEasyNovember to February, early morning

Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Plan 02

2 days in Bhindawas

  1. 01

    Day 1: Bhindawas and Khaparwas

Spend the first morning at Bhindawas Wildlife Sanctuary, then a quieter second session at Khaparwas Wildlife Sanctuary a few kilometres away. Return to Jhajjar for lunch and rest. In the late afternoon, see the seven-tomb group on the Jhajjar-Delhi road.

  2. 02

Day 2: Beri and a wider loop

Visit Mata Bhimeshwari Devi temple at Beri in the morning, when queues are shorter outside Navratri. Then choose between a drive towards Nahar Wildlife Sanctuary in Rewari district for blackbuck country, or a slower return towards Delhi with a stop at Sultanpur National Park.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Nahar Wildlife Sanctuary2–3 hours at the site, plus long travelEasyWinter mornings, October to March
Sultanpur National Park2–3 hoursModerateNovember to February, early morning

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Sultanpur National Park: Paths are mostly flat, but you will walk to see birds and shade is patchy. Winter mornings are cold and summer is hot, so carry water, a hat and layers.

Pacing

Pacing a Bhindawas trip for parents and children

  • Treat Bhindawas as a vehicle-based outing: the track around the lake lets you watch birds from the car, so walking can stay short.
  • Carry water, a hat, snacks and any medicines; shade, seating, food and toilets near the water are limited.
  • Go in the first two hours after sunrise in winter. Mornings are cold and misty from December to January, so bring a warm layer.
  • Avoid April to June, when the plains are extremely hot and there is little shade, and be careful in the monsoon when tracks can turn muddy.
  • Check fees, hours and vehicle rules with the Haryana Forest and Wildlife Department before you set out; do not rely on third-party listings.
  • Heat and cold: Winter mornings can be cold and misty, while April to June is very hot with almost no shade near the water. Dress in layers in winter and avoid summer midday visits.
