Plan 01
1 day at Candolim Beach
- 01
Day 1: Café breakfast, fort, beach at sunset
Start with breakfast at Cafe Chocolatti on Fort Aguada Road before the day heats up, then drive to Fort Aguada and walk the upper ramparts in the morning light. Return to the beach for a sunbed lunch at a shack such as Calamari Bath & Binge if it is open for the season. Rest through the hot afternoon, then walk on the sand in the last hour before sunset and finish with dinner at After 7 or Flambee.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Cafe Chocolatti 1 to 1.5 hours Easy Breakfast or mid-morning, October to May Fort Aguada 1.5 to 2 hours Moderate Late afternoon for the light over the sea, or early morning; avoid midday heat Calamari Bath & Binge 2 to 3 hours Easy November to March, midday or late afternoon After 7 1.5 to 2 hours Easy Dinner, November to February Flambee 1 to 1.5 hours Easy Dinner, any month if open Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Fort Aguada: Vehicles can reach the upper fort, which spares the climb, but the walk along the ramparts and to the lighthouse area is on uneven stone with little shade and few benches. The lower fort has an easier approach near the sea. Wear flat shoes and expect heat from March.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Candolim Beach trip for parents and children
- Visit the beach early in the morning or in the last hour before sunset; midday sand and sun are hard going.
- Choose a base with a pool and ground-floor rooms, and use a taxi for the beach if the walk is long.
- Take advice from Drishti lifesavers before getting in the water and keep to the flagged areas. Swimming and coastal water sports are prohibited in the monsoon.
- Carry water, a hat and sunscreen, and confirm that a shack is open before walking along the beach.
- Fort Aguada has vehicle access to the upper fort, but the ramparts are uneven and shaded only in places; go early or late.
- Cross the main road with care; traffic is heavy and pavements are limited.
