Canggu guide · Where to eat
Places to eat in Canggu, with what to order and how comfortable each is for families and older travellers.
Updated
Canggu eats mostly Western cafe food, Indonesian warung meals and seafood, and its strength for vegetarian travellers is the number of plant-based cafes. Alchemy, on Jalan Tanah Barak, says its whole menu is plant-based (some items may contain honey), and many other cafes mark vegetarian and vegan dishes. Indonesian staples such as nasi campur, gado-gado, tempe and sayur lodeh are easy to order without meat, but check for shrimp paste (terasi), fish stock and fried-in-shared-oil habits.
Indian food is the weak point. We could not verify a pure vegetarian or Jain restaurant in Canggu, so none is tagged here. The dependable Indian options are in Seminyak, about 25 minutes by road: see our Seminyak guide. If you need Jain meals, ask your hotel or villa kitchen in advance about food without onion, garlic and root vegetables, or consider booking a villa with a chef and briefing them. Bottled or filtered water is advisable.
Menus and kitchens change. If you follow a strict diet or have an allergy, confirm with the restaurant before you order.
