Galle Face Hotel
Galle Road, Kollupitiya, facing Galle Face Green · Heritage seafront hotel · Price band: ₹₹₹₹
A colonial-era seafront hotel opened in 1864, facing Galle Face Green, with verandahs, a sea-facing terrace and a long list of famous guests. Even non-guests often come for afternoon tea.
For older travellers: Public areas are mostly level with long verandahs and plenty of seating. Rooms are in different wings, some older with stairs, so ask for a lift-accessible or ground-floor room. The promenade outside is flat but crowded at dusk.

Before you book
What to check when booking for older travellers
- Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
- Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
- Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
- Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
- Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
