Plan 01

1 day in Courtallam

  1. 01

    Day 1: Falls and temple

Reach the Main Falls in the morning and look at the water before deciding whether to bathe. Walk to the Kutralanathar temple, and ask for the Chitra Sabha hall. Have lunch in town and rest. In the afternoon, drive to Five Falls if the flow is good, and stop at Tiger Falls on the way back if you want a small, safe dip.

Plan 02

2 days in Courtallam

  1. 01

Day 1: Main Falls and temple

Start at the Main Falls early, then visit the Kutralanathar temple and the Chitra Sabha. Walk to Chitraruvi if you prefer a gentler bath. Rest after lunch and spend the evening in the town.

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Chitraruvi (Small Falls): There is no parking nearby, so you walk, and the path can be wet and uneven. Only a few people bathe at a time, which is calmer, but you may wait.

Pacing

Pacing a Courtallam trip for parents and children

  • Check bathing status each morning. Bans can come and go within a day, and the safest plan is to watch from the road when flow is strong.
  • Take the road and not the steps at Thirumalai Kovil if stairs are hard; the temple has road access to the top.
  • Visit the temple and falls in the morning, when the stone is cooler and queues are shorter. Rest after lunch.
  • Choose the Chitraruvi or Tiger Falls for a gentler bath, and avoid the Main Falls on weekends and school holidays.
  • Wear shoes with grip for wet steps, and take a small towel and dry clothes in a waterproof bag.
  • Bathing bans: Strong flow leads to bathing bans, sometimes for only a day or two. Ask at your stay or at the site before you change, and respect closures.
