How to reach Dandeli by air

Hubballi Airport (HBX) is the nearest, about 70 to 80 km by road, with flights from cities such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai. Belagavi (IXG) is roughly 105 km away; allow around two hours or more by road from either.

How to reach Dandeli by train

Dandeli (DGD) has local DEMU services to Alnavar. Alnavar Junction (ANR) is about 32 km away, Londa (LD) about 38 km, Dharwad (DWR) about 56 km and Hubballi (UBL) about 78 km, so most visitors take a train to one of these and continue by road.

How to reach Dandeli by road

Dandeli is linked by NWKRTC and KSRTC buses with Bengaluru, Hubballi, Dharwad, Belagavi, Mangaluru, Udupi and Goa, according to Wikivoyage. The drive from Bengaluru is long, roughly 480 km and about 11 hours by one account.

Getting around Dandeli

A hired car or camp transport is easiest, since attractions are spread along forest roads. Autos and local buses serve the town, but not remote sights such as Syntheri, Kavala or Ulavi.

For parents and senior travellers

Easy transfers to and in Dandeli

  • Jeep safaris are bumpy, so carry a cushion and use the toilet before leaving; there are none on the route.
  • Plan one activity per day and rest after lunch; the forest roads add travel fatigue.
  • Carry medicines, water and snacks; clinics are limited in the forest areas.
  • Arrive from Hubballi by car rather than overnight bus if you have back problems.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
