1 day in Dandeli

Day 1: Rafting and a crocodile stop
Start early with a rafting slot on the Kali, booked the day before through a licensed operator, and allow two to three hours on the water. After lunch and a rest, visit Dandeli Crocodile Park on the river bank, where winter mornings are best but afternoons are still workable. If energy remains, drive to Moulangi Eco Park for a short walk through the bamboo. Non-rafters can swap the morning for a coracle ride and an early safari.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Dandeli Crocodile Park 1 to 2 hours Easy December to February mornings; open generally October to May Moulangi Eco Park 1 to 2 hours Moderate October to February, in the morning or late afternoon Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Moulangi Eco Park: Short trails with uneven ground and some slopes, little seating, and no major facilities. Fine for active seniors at their own pace, less so for those with mobility limits.

Raft the Kali in the morning with a pre-booked operator, then recover over lunch. Fit travellers can visit Syntheri Rocks in the afternoon; others can stay at the camp or visit Moulangi Eco Park.

With parents at Syntheri Rocks: The walk down is a long concrete staircase through forest and the return is a steady climb; sources describe it as 200 to 400 steps. Rails and a gazebo help, but older travellers with knee or heart concerns should stay at the viewing top or skip it.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Dandeli trip for parents and children
- Choose a ground-floor room at a camp and ask about steps, the path to the dining area and lighting at night.
- The safari, crocodile park and Supa Dam are the easiest sights; skip rafting and the long stairways at Syntheri and Kavala unless you are fit.
- Jeep safaris are bumpy, so carry a cushion and use the toilet before leaving; there are none on the route.
- Plan one activity per day and rest after lunch; the forest roads add travel fatigue.
- Carry medicines, water and snacks; clinics are limited in the forest areas.
- Arrive from Hubballi by car rather than overnight bus if you have back problems.
