Plan 01
1 day in Dholavira
- 01
Day 1: A long day trip from Bhuj
Leave Bhuj very early and take the Khavda road, stopping briefly on the Road to Heaven. Reach the site in the morning, start at the museum and then walk the ruins with a guide, focusing on the citadel and the reservoirs. Eat at your hotel or carry food. Drive to the Wood Fossil Park in the late afternoon and head back before dark. This is tiring and leaves little margin; an overnight stay is much better.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Road to Heaven (Khavda to Dholavira) About 30–45 minutes of driving, plus photo stops Easy November to February; sunrise or late afternoon Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Pacing
Pacing a Dholavira trip for parents and children
- Stay at least one night on the island. The round trip from Bhuj is long, and the ruins are best seen in the cool early hours.
- Use a private car with a driver you trust. There is no public transport on the island and breaks are hard to arrange without your own vehicle.
- The ruins offer little shade or seating. Carry a hat, water and a folding stool if you need regular rests, and use the museum as a cool break.
- Choose a hotel with air-conditioned, ground-level rooms. Ask about step-free access when you book.
- Carry your regular medicines and a basic first-aid kit. The nearest large hospital is in Bhuj, hours away.
- Avoid April to September: the heat is severe, then the monsoon can disrupt access across the Rann.
