Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Digha trip for parents and children
- Plan beach time for sunrise and the hour before sunset; midday sun, humidity and the lack of shade are tiring even in winter.
- Choose a hotel near the beach with a lift and easy vehicle access, since walking on soft sand is hard for older knees.
- The aquarium, science centre and Amrabati Park are flat and mostly indoors or shaded, which makes them good rest-hour options.
- Do not rely on swimming. Stay in the shallows, follow lifeguard advice and avoid the sea in rough weather and the monsoon.
- Hire a car for day trips to Shankarpur, Talsari and Chandaneswar; local transport links are limited and the roads can be affected by erosion.
- Eat seafood only where it is freshly cooked and hot, and drink bottled or filtered water.
